- Regional Coodinators
Laura Casey
My name is Laura Casey and I am the Regional Coordinator for Central Massachusetts.
I am the mom of five girls, including 10 year-old twins who have Down
syndrome. I first became involved with Massachusetts Families Organizing
for Change in 2002 when I attended a family leadership series. After the
series I felt incredibly rejuvenated and empowered and wanted to stay
connected and involved with MFOFC in an effort to become a change agent
in my community. In 2003 I happily accepted the Central Regional Coordinator
position that had become available. I strongly believe in the mission
of MFOFC and the tremendous, positive impact the leadership series has
on families and individuals.
Lauri Medeiros
I began my journey as an education, family and systems change advocate
for children with disabilities and their families after attending the
MFOFC Family Leadership Series in 1998. My real life journey continues
to this day advocating for children with disabilities and their families
to embrace, navigate, improve and integrate all systems including the
educational, health care delivery and agency provider systems so that
we can all work collaboratively toward a common goal. Equally important,
I believe that the family's voice should be heard and that the family's
expertise be valued and fully integrated in decision making at all levels
including the level of care as well as in local, state and federal policy
decisions. I believe that every child and their family should be able
to live, play and easily access community, health care, family supports,
a meaningful education and independent life options.
Sue Nadworny
I have been the Northeast coordinator for the past 12 years. I am the
parent
of three active teenagers, Alexandria, Bennett and James. My husband John
specializes in financial planning for families with members with special
needs. In the Northeast we offer a variety of informational workshops
and trainings to help parents become the best advocates for their children.
MFOFC is an organization that asks people to come together - organizing
for better communities and lives for people with disabilities.
Emily Murgo Nisenbaum
I am a founding member of MFOFC. I am particularly proud of the organization
for several reasons: its longevity; its sense of mission and purpose;
the diversity of it's membership and its focus on education, training
and information sharing for families and individuals who are living with
disability. My involvement with MFOFC has afforded me the opportunity
to meet many individuals with disabilities and families and has taught
me so much about perseverance, courage, love and hope for the future.
