Laura Casey
My name is Laura Casey and I am the Regional Coordinator for Central Massachusetts.
I am the mom of five girls, including 10 year-old twins who have Down
syndrome. I first became involved with Massachusetts Families Organizing
for Change in 2002 when I attended a family leadership series. After the
series I felt incredibly rejuvenated and empowered and wanted to stay
connected and involved with MFOFC in an effort to become a change agent
in my community. In 2003 I happily accepted the Central Regional Coordinator
position that had become available. I strongly believe in the mission
of MFOFC and the tremendous, positive impact the leadership series has
on families and individuals.
Gwen Gosselin
I attended a leadership series in Western Massachusetts in the early 1990's.
I have always been committed to the mission of Uniting Families for Change,
which is the Western MA chapter of MFOFC. Supporting families to continue
on their leadership path, I believe most parents of children with special
needs function as leaders whether they ever come to a leadership series
or not. This allows me to work for change in what I do for my daughter
and in what I do in my work life. The rewards are amazing as I come to
know more and more people who are working to bring about change for people
with disabilities and their families.
Sue Nadworny
I have been the Northeast coordinator for the past 12 years. I am the parent
of three active teenagers, Alexandria, Bennett and James. My husband John
specializes in financial planning for families with members with special
needs. In the Northeast we offer a variety of informational workshops and
trainings to help parents become the best advocates for their children.
MFOFC is an organization that asks people to come together - organizing
for better communities and lives for people with disabilities.
Emily Murgo Nisenbaum
I am a founding member of MFOFC. I am particularly proud of the organization
for several reasons: its longevity; its sense of mission and purpose;
the diversity of it's membership and its focus on education, training
and information sharing for families and individuals who are living with
disability. My involvement with MFOFC has afforded me the opportunity
to meet many individuals with disabilities and families and has taught
me so much about perseverance, courage, love and hope for the future.
